Everything about implants in one trusted location
An implant is an artificial root in the jawbone. It can provide support for, for example, a crown, bridge or implant-retained removable denture. The implantological part is carried out by Implant Company at agreed treatment times. This is an independent healthcare provider. Van Hoften Tandprothetiek facilitates the treatment within the practice and tailors the dental prosthetic part accordingly.

Dental and medical examination, assessment of oral hygiene and usually imaging are required beforehand. Smoking, general health, medication, bone volume and the condition of the mouth can influence suitability, risk and recovery. Not everyone can receive an implant immediately or without additional treatment.
The possible treatment
- Intake at Van Hoften Tandprothetiek and discussing your prosthetic request.
- Implantological intake, examination and, if necessary, imaging by Implant Company.
- Personal treatment and cost plan; check who bills which part.
- Placement of implants by Implant Company with anesthesia.
- Healing and implant controls; the duration varies per situation.
- Impressions or scans and manufacture of the implant-retained removable denture or another prosthetic appliance by Van Hoften Tandprothetiek.
- Installation, aftercare, daily cleaning and periodic checks.
Risks and expectations
Implant treatment carries risks, such as infection, failure to integrate with the bone, damage to nearby structures and problems caused by inadequate maintenance. Your treating clinician discusses the risks, alternatives and expected outcome relevant to you before you consent. No outcome can be guaranteed.
Costs and reimbursement
You will receive a written cost estimate in advance. The final reimbursement depends on your insurance or health insurance fund, policy conditions, contracting, patient contribution, deductible and any prior permission. If in doubt, always ask for written confirmation.

Costs and reimbursement
What is reimbursed in this situation?
The explanation below is general. Your treatment, billing codes and insurance conditions determine the final reimbursement.
Netherlands
Implants for implant-retained removable dentures can be reimbursed under certain conditions from basic insurance if there is a seriously shrunken, completely toothless jaw and a normal prosthesis does not function sufficiently. Prior permission is usually required. For the implant-supported prosthesis, a statutory patient contribution of 10% in the lower jaw and 8% in the upper jaw usually applies; the deductible may also apply.
An implant for, for example, one missing tooth is usually not covered by basic insurance for adults. Implant Company and Van Hoften Tandprothetiek each make a cost estimate for their own part.
Belgium
The Belgian legal reimbursement for oral implants is more limited and strongly subject to conditions. There are specific regulations for two implants in a completely edentulous lower jaw from the age of 70, including when the patient has been edentulous for at least one year and wears a suitable complete lower denture.
For treatment in the Netherlands, your health insurance company must confirm in advance in writing whether the implants, imaging, mesostructure and prosthesis will be reimbursed.
