Start with an introduction
First dentures can raise many questions about appearance, eating, speaking and the possible removal of teeth. During the intake we discuss what can be retained, what alternatives there are, the planning, the competent practitioner for possible extractions, the number of possible appointments and the cost estimate.
When teeth are removed and a denture is placed immediately, this is called an immediate denture. Because the mouth heals and changes, checks and adjustments are important.
The possible contact moments
- Introduction (intake): discuss wishes, oral situation, health, expectations and costs.
- First impression or scan: create an initial registration as a basis for the treatment design.
- Final impression or scan, if needed: accurately register the mouth for the final fit.
- Bite registration, if necessary: record the position, height, and mutual relationship of the jaws.
- Try-in, if needed: check shape, position, bite and appearance together and adjust if necessary.
- Fitting: place the definitive prosthesis, check it and provide maintenance explanations.
- Aftercare: guide adjustment, assess pressure points and adjust if necessary.
The precise route and number of appointments may differ per patient.
The first period
Your mouth needs to get used to it and can change. Follow the personal instructions and contact us if you have any pain, wounds, bleeding or doubts.
Costs and reimbursement
You will receive a written cost estimate in advance. The final reimbursement depends on your insurance or health insurance fund, policy conditions, contracting, patient contribution, deductible and any prior permission. If in doubt, always ask for written confirmation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many appointments are needed?
This varies per oral situation and method. Not every patient needs a definitive impression, bite assessment or fitting.

You will receive a cost estimate in advance. Check the possible reimbursement with your insurer or health insurance fund.
Can I still contact you after fitting?
Yes. Aftercare and assessment are part of the guidance.
Costs and reimbursement
What is reimbursed in this situation?
The explanation below is general. Your treatment, billing codes and insurance conditions determine the final reimbursement.
Netherlands
Temporary or completely removable dentures are usually covered by basic insurance. Usually 75% is reimbursed and you pay 25% statutory patient contribution. The mandatory deductible can also be claimed.
Should teeth be extracted? These extractions are usually not covered by basic insurance for adults. Therefore, ask for a cost estimate that shows the extraction and the prosthesis separately.
Belgium
The Belgian legal conditions and possible additional benefits from your health insurance company apply to a first removable prosthesis. The reimbursement may depend on your age, the type of prosthesis and your insurance situation.
Before treatment in the Netherlands, have your health insurance company confirm in writing which reimbursement, permission and documents are required.
