Would you like to have your prosthetic care performed at another practice from now on? We will help you calmly find out what is going on, what data is needed and how the transition can proceed carefully. A first conversation does not oblige you to anything.
Switching can be a quiet step
People change practice for various reasons: a move, accessibility, a need for more explanation, a changed oral situation or because they feel more comfortable with a different method. We do not need to assess your previous practitioner in order to look ahead together.
You are looking for specialist prosthetic care
You want treatment, dental technology and aftercare close together, with one point of contact for your removable dentures.
You want more clarity
You want to calmly understand what is possible, how many appointments are needed and what the expected costs and reimbursement are.
Your situation has changed
Your denture is loose, worn or damaged, you are missing teeth or molars, or implants and aftercare require renewed attention.
Switching in five clear steps
Schedule a free intake
We listen to your reason for looking around, your complaints and what you expect from a new practice. You do not have to cancel your old practice yet.
We are reviewing your current situation
Take your prosthesis, insurance details, medication list and available treatment items with you. We discuss whether file information is needed first.
Ask for the complete digital patient file
Ask your current practice to send the complete patient file about your oral and denture care, together with any additional information that may be important to us as a new practitioner. We cannot process paper files. The data may be sent directly by e-mail to: info@vanhoftentandprothetiek.nl are sent, preferably via secure healthcare email. Transfer only takes place with your consent.
You will receive an explanation and, if necessary, a cost estimate
We explain what we can and cannot take over, whether a referral or additional investigation is necessary and what financial consequences are possible.
You choose what happens next
Only after everything is clear will you decide whether you want to continue with us. We carefully record agreements, responsibilities and aftercare.
Is there still a treatment, warranty or complaint in progress?
Tell this at the first contact. It is usually wise to first give the original practitioner the opportunity to explain or assess and correct a problem. If another practitioner changes the prosthesis, this can complicate the assessment of the original work, a warranty agreement or complaint mediation.
We therefore do not automatically adopt an uncompleted process. First we carefully map out what has already been done, what agreements apply and what care is responsible.
Clarity before we start
We can assess this
- Your complete or partial removable dentures.
- Looseness, pressure points, fracture, wear, chewing and speech problems.
- Maintenance, repair, relining, replacement and possible alternatives.
- Your question about implant-retained removable dentures or prostheses on implants.
- An existing treatment proposal or cost estimate as a second opinion.
This sometimes requires cooperation
- Own teeth, molars or roots that need to be examined or treated.
- Implants requiring monitoring, diagnostics or treatment.
- Extractions, surgery, mucosal abnormalities or unexplained pain.
- A current authorization or billing with another healthcare provider.
- Situations in which a dentist, implantologist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon must make the indication.
Your data does not transfer automatically
You remain in control
Previous information can be important for good and safe care. Consider implant brands, X-rays, medical details, previous repairs, authorizations and the date on which a prosthesis was placed.
We only request relevant information and do so with your permission. Ask your current practice to send the file digitally and preferably via secure healthcare email to info@vanhoftentandprothetiek.nl.
The patient file and important additional information
Ask your current healthcare provider for the complete digital patient file relating to your oral and prosthetic care. In addition, ask for any additional information that may be important to us as a new practitioner, even if it is not included as standard in a file overview. We cannot process paper files.
In the Netherlands, transferring a dental file when changing dentists is common. In Belgium you have the right to inspect and copy your patient file; According to the FPS, the healthcare provider must grant access within a maximum of fifteen days after receiving your request, subject to legal exceptions. The original healthcare provider remains responsible for the legal retention period of their own file.

Policy, contracting and authorization
The first intake at Van Hoften Tandprothetiek is free as long as no additional procedure or treatment is performed. A full removable denture is covered by basic insurance under certain conditions. Patient contribution and deductible may apply. Other reimbursement rules, referrals or authorizations may apply to other prosthetic care.
Before switching, check whether our location is contracted for your policy and whether an existing authorization or treatment process can be changed. The health insurer decides on your personal reimbursement.
Free choice and reimbursement
According to Belgian patient rights, you can in principle freely choose which healthcare provider you contact and you can change healthcare providers, subject to legal or organizational restrictions. However, the reimbursement follows the Belgian nomenclature and the conditions of your health insurance company and any supplementary insurance.
Have it checked in advance whether a prescription, approval, age condition, renewal period or other administrative step is required. We can provide treatment details and a cost estimate; your health insurance company decides on the reimbursement.
Practical questions about switching
Do I need to deregister my current practice first?
No. You can first get acquainted and collect information without obligation. Only sign up or have data transferred when it is clear that you actually want to switch and what care we can provide.
Can I switch in the middle of a treatment?
Sometimes yes, but not automatically. We must first assess what has already been done, what materials or facilities have been used, who is responsible for what and what financial or insurance arrangements are in place. Sometimes completion or recovery with the original practitioner is more sensible.
Does the warranty of my previous prosthesis continue?
That depends on the original agreements and what happens to the prosthesis afterwards. Please let us know before making any changes that there may be a warranty. The original practitioner must often first be able to assess the problem themselves.
Can an existing authorization be transferred?
Not always. An authorization can be linked to a treatment, period, healthcare provider or cost estimate. Ask your health insurer or health insurance company for written confirmation before starting a new treatment.
Do I need a referral?
For a complete conventional denture in a completely toothless mouth, the denturist in the Netherlands can treat independently. With a partial or implant-supported denture and when your own teeth, roots or implants play a role, a written referral or consultation with a dentist, implantologist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon may be required.
How do I have my file transferred?
Ask your current practice to send the complete digital patient file about your oral and prosthetic care, together with any additional information that may be important to us as a new practitioner. This can happen info@vanhoftentandprothetiek.nl, preferably via secure healthcare email. Please indicate that you consent to this transfer. We cannot process paper files.
What do I take with me to the intake?
Take your prosthesis, identification, insurance or health insurance information and medication list with you. You can have available treatment data sent to us digitally in advance. If you do not have that information yet, we will discuss together what is really needed.
Can I get a second opinion first?
Yes. If you do not yet know whether switching is necessary or wise, you can first request an independent assessment. Read how a second opinion for your dentures works.
