What is a plate prosthesis?
A plate denture is a partial, removable denture made of plastic. It fills in missing teeth or molars and rests partly on the gums. We examine the remaining teeth, your bite, the available space and your wishes. If necessary, we coordinate the treatment with your dentist.
Plate or frame?
A plate prosthesis and frame prosthesis differ in construction, support, hold, maintenance and costs. A plate denture is not automatically the best or cheapest choice for every mouth in the long term. During the intake we discuss which options can be explored.
Also possible: a completely milled acetal prosthesis. This is a metal-free intermediate solution between a plastic plate prosthesis and a traditional frame. Read the detailed explanation about the acetal prosthesis.
The possible contact moments
- Introduction (intake): discuss wishes, oral situation, health, expectations and costs.
- First impression or scan: create an initial registration as a basis for the treatment design.
- Final impression or scan, if needed: accurately register the mouth for the final fit.
- Bite registration, if necessary: record the position, height, and mutual relationship of the jaws.
- Try-in, if needed: check shape, position, bite and appearance together and adjust if necessary.
- Fitting: place the definitive prosthesis, check it and provide maintenance explanations.
- Aftercare: guide adjustment, assess pressure points and adjust if necessary.
The precise route and number of appointments may differ per patient.
Aftercare
After placement, adjustment may be required. A pressure spot, pain, a sharp edge or problems with eating and speaking are reasons to contact us. Do not adjust the prosthesis yourself.
Costs and reimbursement
You will receive a written cost estimate in advance. The final reimbursement depends on your insurance or health insurance fund, policy conditions, contracting, patient contribution, deductible and any prior permission. If in doubt, always ask for written confirmation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many appointments are needed?
This varies per oral situation and method. Not every patient needs a definitive impression, bite assessment or fitting.
Do I know in advance what it costs?
You will receive a cost estimate in advance. Check the possible reimbursement with your insurer or health insurance fund.
Can I still contact you after fitting?
Yes. Aftercare and assessment are part of the guidance.
Costs and reimbursement
What is reimbursed in this situation?
The explanation below is general. Your treatment, billing codes and insurance conditions determine the final reimbursement.
Netherlands
A plate prosthesis for adults is usually not covered by Dutch basic insurance. Reimbursement may be possible from additional dental insurance. The available amount, reimbursement percentage and possible waiting time differ per package.
You will receive a cost estimate with the treatment codes in advance. Check this with your insurer before you decide.
Belgium
Belgian statutory reimbursement for a removable partial denture has its own conditions, including rules on age, denture type and previous reimbursed treatment. Additional benefits vary by health insurance fund.
Would you like to have the prosthesis made in the Netherlands? Send our cost estimate in advance to your health insurance company and ask in writing which reimbursement and permission apply.
